Committed to continuous service improvement founded on efficiencies Objectquest Limited are constantly investing in the fabric and facilities of the home. It may seem unusual that a “caring” facility would consider IT solutions but they recognise the resources this may release to other tasks. A resident recieves care The Business ProblemObjectquest have a stated objective to constantly improve service provision and with this in mind staff and resident record keeping and reporting is paper based and can be extremely labour intensive. Valuable resource is consumed at regular intervals through the working day and at end of week and month for the production of management informat.
- Being paper based information can be time consuming to locate, difficult to keep up to date, at risk of loss due to flood or fire and cannot easily be extracted into management reports.
- Many reminders for stock levels, ordering, qualifications and examinations, birthdays (yes birthdays!) are managed by the “sticky note method”.
- Other service related, non-information based, tasks and services are inhibited by staff efficiency carrying out administrative but legally required recording duties.
- Operational, Financial and Corporate Management do not have easy access to information required in order to make operational, tactical or strategic decisions.
- Difficult to achieve greater flexibility as the filing cabinet becomes a bottleneck and information can only be “used” by one person at a time.

The Easy Information Management Solution Objectquest required a system that would make the data capture and enquiry process simple for none IT literate staff, form the basis of a comprehensive information system, automate warnings & messages, and finally to assist with the regular production of management information.
- EIM was implemented on a server in the administration facilities with access to this provided from other operational offices, the financial managers office, a common area (public) and for key management – from the outside world.
- Phase one included the configuration and capture of all resident and staff information.
- From each resident critical information can be stored including their admission details, Care Plan and progress against the plan, Nutritional Assessments, Medication details, and general daily notes.
- Social and development activities are recorded for the Home including resident attendance.
- Medication levels are automatically monitored against recommended stock levels and warnings provided by a traffic lighting system with regards to repeat prescriptions.
- Shift handovers are now electronic with a single click providing care staff with the notes for each resident for that day. This can now be done in parallel rather than “passing a book round”.
- Security of access and audit-ability of information is important in this environment.
- Phase 2 focuses on staff development and efficiency with qualifications held, renewals and re-assessments required being monitored and managed.
- Training required and progress against a staff development plan is crucial in the sense of value and self worth for the staff involved
- Ease of use in all that is implemented is crucial
Feedback “I was quite amazed at the way the software and the staff could accommodate the requirements of the home. Phase one only took a few days to have configured and in use by the staff. Although I was initially concerned by possible adoption issues I had no need to worry, the staff love the system as it is both easy to use and has made their lives easier. We now have bigger plans for phase 2 than we had originally envisaged. Absolutely brilliant! I would recommend EIM to anyone.” Sue Foster, Manager, Bethany House
